(Beijing, September 22)In the men's competition of the "Good Luck Beijing" 2007 International Mountain Bike Invitational Competition held this afternoon, Christoph Sauser of Switzerland led all the way to clinch the title. After the race, he joked that he really wished it were the Olympic Games, as he would have otherwise become an Olympic champion.

Beating a strong field including four of the world top 10, Christoph Sauser did exceptionally well today to win the much-coveted gold medal. As for the fact that nearly 80% of the riders failed to cover the entire course, he thought it was because the course was short for each lap and many riders were not in form after the recent World Cup series.

Christoph Sauser spoke highly of the efficient work by the event organizing committee in transportation, accommodations and prize-awarding ceremonies. In comparison with the previous Olympic Games preparation, Beijing was nearly six months ahead of some host cities in holding major world tournaments for a trial run of its Olympic venues.

Also, Christoph Sauser said that cycling is a very popular sport in Switzerland, where many people use it as an environment-friendly means of transportation. Speaking of the mountain bike development in China, he hoped that led by China's three ace women riders the sport here would be further promoted and the technical level raised in the near future.
