Swiss Christoph Sauser wins men's cross-country race

(Beijing, September 22) The men's cross-country race of the "Good Luck Beijing" 2007 International Mountain Bike Invitational Competition concluded this afternoon, with Christoph Sauser of Switzerland winning the title in 2:11:53. The second and third places went to Bart Brentjens of the Netherlands (2:14:06) and Carlos Coloma Nicolas of Spain (2:15:49).

The event drew 47 riders, including the first three among the world's top 10. China's Ji Jianhua, ranking 61st in the world and today's highest-ranking rider for China, started with the second group.

The competition began at 2:00 p.m.. Half way into the race Swiss Christoph Sauser extended his lead while a few riders had to quit for being overtaken for one lap by the riders at the fore. Two laps before the end of the race only eight riders remained on the course, with Christoph Sauser still in the lead, followed by Dutch Bart Brentjens, Spaniard Carlos Coloma Nicolas and Frenchman Julien Absalon. With a final spurt the first three riders finished one-two-three in that order.
