German veteran praises Laoshan course and aims at 2008
(Beijing, September 22) In the women's cross-country race of the "Good Luck Beijing" 2007 International Mountain Bike Invitational Competition that concluded this afternoon, German veteran Sabine Spitz finished runner-up with a result of 1:47.18.
After the competition, Spitz praises the Laoshan course, saying that it set high demands on riders' physical strength and, laid out on a whole, enabled the riders to concentrate on the race and helped boost their riding speed despite its many turnings. Also, she considered the race a high-level event as five of the world's top 10 riders had been involved.
Sabine Spitz, 36, said that she has been engaged in the sport of cycling for 22 years. Over the past 15 years she has achieved such outstanding results as a silver medal from Sydney 2000 and a bronze medal from Athens 2004. Currently she ranks second in the world. She said as long as she is interested in the sport she would continue her Olympic efforts for the 2008 Games in Beijing and maybe further for the 2012 Games in London.
