(Beijing, September 22) Norwegian Lene Byberg took the bronze medal with a result of 1:47:28 in today's women's race, which was only 10 seconds behind the runner-up Sabine Spitz from Germany.

Lene Byberg's starting position was not so good due to her world rankings, but she tried her utmost and came from behind to surpass most her opponents to take the bronze. After the race Byberg said though it was important to get herself familiar with the competition course, she tried her very best in the race to get a good result.

Despite the absence of some ace riders Byberg considered today's race a high-level one with the participation of China's Liu Ying, winner of this year's World Cup series, and Sabine Spitz, medalist at both Sydney 2000 and Athens 2004.
